These trees grow down from the leaves of another tree where a bird deposits its seed, on touching the ground a main root forms and the tree then clamps to the side of its host tree and starts growing rapidly putting down more and bigger roots, it eventually completely encloses the main tree which then dies just leaving the strangler tree...
